its not a compliment

With our group project, we decided to create a documentary we would be proud of and about something we all care about. We decided to bring awareness to sexual harassment and educate not only ourselves even more on the topic but also those who view our documentary. There were no specific requirements revolving around what the topic needed to be so we stuck to the technical requirements: Different video shots, edited audio, typography, and narration

"On all university campuses and work environments, we face the issue of sexual harassment. Young men: it’s time to step up and do your part to solve it." - Abby Zinman (Documentary group member)

My Role

I was our group's video editor. I combined, cut, and edited our audio and video clips. I created multiple variations of our documentary sequences along with the help of my group mates. We had typography videos created separately and I researched how to edit and crate a type + fade effect to use in our video. I repeated the process for the whole documentary.

When I was not editing the video, I would help with taking B-roll and setting up our cameras. We would help our groupmates when needed.

Conclusion

Our group had many meetings to really understand what we wanted to convey with our documentary and if we were all on board with the same idea. From here on out, we started our game plan.

We started reaching out to multiple resources to help us understand the topic even more but also to have someone speak on the topic themselves. We looked for advice from our TA and Professor and started to film B-roll, interviews, and create graphics.

Once we had all our elements finished, we entered our editing phase, creating multiple rough cuts and going through hours and hours and different sequences. Finally in the end, as a team we all created a documentary we all loved and feel proud of.

With the end of our group work and finished product. I really cherish this opportunity to not only work in a group but also learn first-hand how to plan, execute, and finish a documentary from start to finish. It has been unforgettable and I've learnt a lot from it

This group project has taught me so much about my own skills and strong suit, teamwork, and compromise. We all had our own specific roles that we had to adhere to. We all utilized our strong suites to work and create effectively. I learned that I also have a liking for filming (setting up cameras and finding angles). Alongside filming and editing, I also gained an interest in narrating. This has been a great teamwork experience for me and It has taught me how to make compromises when needed and communicate my worries or ideas to the group.
